Monday Motivation

Our Monday Motivation: “You just think lovely wonderful thoughts,” Peter explained, “and they lift you up in the air.” – J.M. Barrie

Our handmade pixie dust necklace is a wonderful conversation piece and a great reminder to stay positive throughout the week! We offer several options.

Live Long and Prosper

“Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.” – Spock

Star Trek is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Leonard Nimoy developed the concept of the “Live long and prosper” hand gesture for the Vulcan people based on his personal cultural/religious experience. You can learn more about his story by visiting @Yiddish_Book_Center ‘s website to view his oral history.

National Read a Book Day

It’s National Read a Book Day! According to @BBCiWonder, “It would take 62,000 years to read all the books in existence.” Celebrate by reading an abridged book in one sitting such as these miniatures. 🙂 Or begin a classic, unabridged novel like War and Peace or a Charles Dickens’ novel.

The Old Man and the Sea

“All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.” – Ernest Hemingway

The Old Man and the Sea, written by Ernest Hemingway, was first published in LIFE Magazine on September 1st, 1952. When you visit Austin, Texas, be sure to visit BookPeople, an amazing independent bookstore. They sell a cup of coffee named after Hemingway which is fashioned after his rhetoric since the brew is bold.

Mermaid Keychain

“When something like a black cloud passed between her and them, she knew that it was either a whale swimming over her head, or a ship full of human beings, who never imagined that a pretty little mermaid was standing beneath them, holding out her white hands towards the keel of their ship.”

The Little Mermaid, Hans Christian Andersen

These Tibetan silver mermaid keychains measure approximately 4.25″ in height (key ring included) and approximately 1.5″ in width. We offer two add-on Tibetan silver charms: anchors and starfish. #oc #california #laguna

Summer Travels

Coin Purses

Before my story takes a further pace,

It seems a reasonable thing to say

What their condition was, the full array

Of each of them, as it appeared to me,

According to profession and degree,

And what apparel they were riding in. (The Canterbury Tales, 36-41)

Summer travels! Our Canterbury Collection leather coin purses are a perfect way to store your treasures collected on your journey. These colors were inspired from some of Chaucer’s characters. Choose from the Knight (Black), the Pardoner (White), the Merchant (Brown), the Shipman (Teal), and the Scholar (Green). Customize the drawstring from an assortment of leather or tan suede.

James Joyce’s Ulysses – Bloomsday

Today is Bloomsday! James Joyce’s Ulysses took place on a single day, June 16, 1904. To celebrate, we created a “Mkgnao” bookmark with a hand-drawn cat silhouette. This reference is from Chapter 4, Calypso, when Leopold Bloom is first introduced:

“The cat walked stiffly round a leg of the table with tail on high.
—O, there you are, Mr Bloom said, turning from the fire. The cat mewed in answer and stalked again stiffly round a leg of the table, mewing. Just how she stalks over my writingtable. Prr. Scratch my head. Prr.”

Pixie Dust Necklace

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies.” -J. M. Barrie

Merry Christmas

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Awakening

Originally published in 1899, Kate Chopin’s novel is still widely read. We remember it being read to us as a bedtime story. On weekends, we love to read classics and sip on coffee. Today we enjoyed some #California rain while listening to #vinyl records.

Banned Book Week

“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them. -Ray Bradbury

Banned Book Week has caused us to reflect on novels in our personal library. One of our prized titles is a signed copy of Fahrenheit 451, which inspired these new bookmarks. Keep reading and open your mind to new things.
