Summer Travels

Coin Purses

Before my story takes a further pace,

It seems a reasonable thing to say

What their condition was, the full array

Of each of them, as it appeared to me,

According to profession and degree,

And what apparel they were riding in. (The Canterbury Tales, 36-41)

Summer travels! Our Canterbury Collection leather coin purses are a perfect way to store your treasures collected on your journey. These colors were inspired from some of Chaucer’s characters. Choose from the Knight (Black), the Pardoner (White), the Merchant (Brown), the Shipman (Teal), and the Scholar (Green). Customize the drawstring from an assortment of leather or tan suede.

Today, we are introducing our Wanderlust necklaces!

“A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless. We find that after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us.”
John Steinbeck

In German, Wanderlust to means “enjoyment of hiking” or in modern usage a “desire to wander.” Our mini bottles have a piece of a map with the word “Wanderlust” created with a Remington Ten Forty typewriter. The traveler’s bottle captures small pieces from your journey. You can collect sand, small rocks, or anything you like from your adventures. Order it without the map to showcase your tiny collection of memories. We offer a unisex design, a leather band with natural wood endings, or a gold/silver chains that measure 18″ or 26″.

We are also featuring our handcrafted, storytelling necklaces. They are wonderful pieces that capture a personal memory. You can select any U.S. state and we’ll make it into a wooden, Americana necklace. We also offer pixie dust and dandelions. Enjoy the journey and mark it on our handcrafted wooden map!

Retro Objects//Hidden Narratives

DSC_0244

“If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.”

― Rudyard Kipling, The Collected Works

Vintage styled images can be mnemonic devices to help us recall our past. A single object can generate a flood of memories. It is a shared collective past. These textbooks may remind you of your own academic journey. The titles are the following: Modern Business English, Democracy in America, and High School English Grammar. They are relics of shared classroom experiences.

This photo, taken at a recent shoot, is a throwback to the past. History is a rustic land filled with mystery that antiquarians desire to preserve. This image is a perfect desktop or tablet background. We hope you, too, share our sentiment that we can rejuvenate the past by interacting with its objects. Perhaps you can share this photo with a fellow bibliophile.

Here at Chisme Chick, we have curated collections of objects that connect to history and literature. From our fiber arts to handcrafted jewelry line, each object contains a unique story. We believe that you, too, also have a hidden narrative that can be coaxed with objects. This is why we commission quality, handmade pieces that aid your daily conversations with friends and even strangers. Why not purchase a product that contains a fascinating story? Life is an adventure. Let’s celebrate it by selecting goods that represent us as we share what we cherish.

Those Who Wander

wpid-img_20141110_174451.jpg

All That is Gold Does Not Glitter

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king. [1] [1]  J. R. R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings, Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1954.
